Is the Swedish candy at Target the real thing?

Yes. BUBS, Sockerbit, and BonBon are all real Swedish candy companies, and you’ll find them at Target. “Swedish” on the bag doesn’t always mean “made in Sweden,” though. The BUBS sold in U.S. stores are made in Mexico, according to BUBS, and BonBon’s Moomin bags at Target are made by the Finnish candy maker Fazer.

The bigger difference is how you buy it. At Target, you get a sealed bag with a set mix. At a Haus Candy Co. pop-up in Houston, you taste first and scoop exactly what you like.

What’s on the shelf at Target

Three brands lead the Swedish candy aisle at Target as of November 2026. Stock varies by store.

Who it isWhere it’s made
BUBS A Swedish brand that started in 1992 Mexico, for the U.S. market, according to BUBS
Sockerbit A U.S.-based Swedish candy company, founded in 2010 Its own branded candy comes from a European factory, according to Sockerbit
BonBon A Swedish-owned company that started in New York in 2017 The Moomin bags are produced by Fazer, a Finnish candy maker

None of these bags is fake. They’re real brands, and they’ve made Swedish candy easy to find in the U.S. Target isn’t the only store, either. BUBS also lists Kroger, Five Below, Walgreens, Albertsons, Jewel, and Safeway among its retailers.

How to read a bag

You can learn most of what you want to know in about 10 seconds.

  1. Check the brand

It tells you who stands behind the candy, not where it was made.

  2. Find the “Product of” or “Made in” line

It’s usually on the back, near the ingredients.

  3. Read the ingredients if you avoid anything

Recipes vary by product and can change. Don’t assume one bag matches another from the same brand.

Same brand, different factory

BUBS says its U.S. candy keeps the original Swedish recipes. The BUBS in our bins are made in Sweden, and all of our candy is imported from Sweden. Curious whether you can taste a difference? We tried it ourselves in a blind taste test.

A label can’t tell you whether you’ll like the candy, though. That’s what samples are for.

Swedish or Swedish-style?

These phrases look alike, but they tell you different things.

What it tells you
A Swedish brand Where the company started, not where this bag was made
Made in Sweden Where this bag was made
Swedish recipes How the brand describes the recipe, not where it was made
Swedish-style The kind of candy: usually foam, sour sugar, and fun shapes

“Swedish-style” is a label candy makers use openly. It often means candy inspired by the trend, like the Swedish-style foam gummies sold under American candy brands. There’s nothing wrong with it. It’s a style, not a place. New to these textures? Start with What Is Swedish Candy?

What it costs per ounce

Bags come in different sizes, so the shelf price doesn’t tell you much. Here’s what each one costs per ounce as of November 2026. Your store’s price can differ.

You’re paying for more than candy

Most of our customers come to us for private events: a birthday, a baby shower, a wedding, a corporate milestone. We bring the Candy Cart or Candy Stand, and your guests pick and mix their own bags.

At that point, you’re paying for the presentation and the event itself, not just what’s in the bag. It’s an experience more than it’s candy.
